Özet

"Biodiversity is among the natural richness of countries. Türkiye is a lucky country in terms of biodiversity and is located at the intersection of 3 of the 34 important zoogeographic regions in the world. Inland waters is a term that covers several aquatic habitats such as rivers, lakes, lagoons, caves and underground waters. It is necessary to determine the biological diversity of vertebrates and invertebrates living in Türkiye’s inland waters, and then to protect the habitats of species endemic to our country. Factors that threaten the biological diversity of Türkiye’s inland waters can be listed as global climate change, habitat destruction, pollution, the introduction of alien species, excessive and/or illegal hunting, excessive water consumption, tourism and interventions to the water regime. Human activities are directly or indirectly involved in the basis of all these factors. The excessive pressure in our rivers and lakes and the lack of environmental awareness at the desired level or indifference negatively affect the destruction/loss of habitat in our inland waters and thus our biological diversity. In this context, as administrative power can do, we, as citizens, need to be much more careful, especially in terms of environmental awareness and respect for natural life."
