Özet

Intangible cultural heritage embodies the core values and national character of a culture. Understanding this heritage can contribute to the development of national identity within civic education. This research investigates secondary school students’ attitudes towards intangible cultural heritage using a quantitative research paradigm. The sample for this study consists of 320 gifted and typically/normally developing secondary school students studying in various districts of Izmir Province in Türkiye. In this study, data were obtained using the Intangible Cultural Heritage Attitude Scale and analyzed with SPSS software. Although the study concludes that both gifted and typically developing secondary school students exhibited positive attitudes toward intangible cultural heritage, gifted students’ attitudes towards intangible cultural heritage are significantly higher than those of typically developing students in all sub-dimensions and in total scores. However, it is also clear that these attitudes need to be developed. The study also concludes that in both groups, the highest attitude score is seen in the “Social Life” sub-dimension, while the lowest attitude score is seen in the “Information and Practices About Nature and Universe ” sub-dimension.
