Özet
The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of social studies teacher candidates regarding the use of films in social studies. Through the analysis of human rights-based films, current approaches in social studies such as war, immigration, children's rights, refugee children's rights, women's rights, refugee women's rights, racism, artificial intelligence and ethics, justice, social justice, legal literacy, and political literacy were discussed. Six films were used during the 6-week research. The research sample, which was conducted using mixed methods, consists of 24 fourth-grade students studying in the Social Studies Education Department of Ege University. The perception scale for film usage, which is one of the quantitative data collection tools, was applied as a pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed with the T test (paired samples T test) for dependent groups in SPSS. Qualitative data collection tools including pre- and post-perception forms (2N) and interviews, were analyzed descriptively. Pre- and post-perception forms were analyzed using rubrics. The study revealed a significant difference in teacher candidates' pre- and post-perceptions of usage of films in social studies. It was concluded that the participants were able to provide examples of films that may be utilized in social studies, explained the benefits of using films in greater depth, and were more aware of the situations to consider when using films.
