Prof. Dr. Ozlem Goksel, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Pulmonary Medicine and Head of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Immunology and Allergy at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in Izmir, Turkiye. She has been a faculty member at Ege University since 2011 and was among the founding faculty members of the Division. She is also affiliated with EgeSAM – Ege University Translational Pulmonology Research Center as an adjunct scientist and founding academic member.Dr. Goksel received her MD from Uludag University in 1994 and completed her residency in Pulmonary Medicine at Izmir Pulmonary Diseases and Surgery Hospital in 2001, followed by specialist training in Immunology and Allergy at Ankara University in 2008. In 2024, she received a PhD in Medical Biology from the Ege University Institute of Health Sciences, complementing her clinical background with training in molecular and translational research.Her research focuses on severe asthma and allergic diseases, environmental and occupational exposures, severe drug hypersensitivity and rapid drug desensitisation (RDD), and allergo-oncology. Her translational research also includes molecular endotyping of airway and lung diseases using Novel Approach Methodologies (NAMs), as well as the monitoring and characterisation of airborne pollen and fungal bioaerosols and their interactions with chemical pollutants and climate-related environmental changes.During her clinical and academic career, Dr. Goksel has held visiting positions at the Department of Pulmonology, Allergy and Critical Care at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh; the Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratory at Mayo Clinic, Rochester; and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), Helsinki. She has also contributed to European collaborative research through the EU COST Actions DiMoPEx (Diagnosis, Monitoring and Prevention of Exposure-Related Noncommunicable Diseases) and ADOPT (New Approaches in Detection of Pathogens and Aeroallergens) as a Management Committee member and secondary proposer.Dr. Goksel is board-certified by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and serves as a Board Member of the EAACI Aerobiology and Pollution Working Group. She is also an active member of the EAACI Allergo-Oncology Working Group and the Environmental Interventions Working Group of the CK-CARE Global Allergy Forum. At the national level, she serves as Chair of the Occupational Allergies Working Group of the Turkish National Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (TSACI).She has served as a principal investigator or investigator in more than 30 international Phase II–IV clinical trials in asthma and allergic diseases, particularly severe asthma and biologic therapies. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and has received seven national and two international congress awards. Her work brings together clinical allergy and pulmonology, translational medicine, allergo-oncology, and environmental and occupational respiratory health.
