THE IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL NEWS IN RAISING AWARENESS ON CHILD BRIDES AND AN ALGORITHM SUGGESTION IN PREVENTING THE PROBLEM

Summary
The child bride problem, which emerges with the marriage of girls at a young age, is an issue that needs to be addressed not only by our country but also by countries in the world. This is an important violation of human rights for girls who are married at an early age. Child brides' rights for life, health, education, entertainment and equality are seriously damaged and violated. This problem causes multidimensional consequences, both social, psychological and physiological. In addition, girls who get married have different consequences in terms of both their own lives and the baby they give birth to. Child bride issue, which is the bleeding wound of societies, creates an important loss of image for that society. Awareness studies should be carried out in the society regarding the solution of this problem. Digital newspapers and presented news are of great importance in making the problem visible. Due to the fact that digital newspapers and online news are independent of time and place and can be followed frequently by everyone, their role in raising awareness of the child bride is inevitable. For this reason, in this project aimed at the function of digital newspapers and digital news in the process of preventing child brides and early marriages in our country, in addition to the news about child brides falling online via Google Alerts, the first 8 digital newspapers (Hürriyet, Akşam , Yeni Akit, Sözcü, Milliyet, Habertürk, Sabah, Yeni Şafak) news on child brides were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods. While the quantitative analysis method is based on the number of news in different main and sub categories in the newspaper, the content analysis method was used in the qualitative analysis method. 213 digital newspaper articles were analyzed with content analysis method and analyzed with NVIVO 12 Pro program. In the project, the role of digital newspapers in preventing the child 11 bride problem, determining how the concept of child bride is represented in digital newspapers, how to follow the way to create awareness in the society through digital newspapers and news, whether the attention is drawn in digital newspapers and news to prevent the problem were aimed to be placed. In addition, an algorithm has been designed to eliminate the child bride problem and to prevent early marriages. According to the results of the project, it was observed that digital newspapers and news presented on online portals are not sufficient to draw attention to the child bride problem, to create awareness in the society and to raise awareness of readers about the issue. However, the news presented in digital newspapers should come to the fore in preventing the child bride problem and raising awareness in the society. In the study, it is noteworthy that the number of news on online news portals is higher than digital newspapers. The articles examined were analyzed in 3 main categories, in the context of the reasons for being a child bride, the consequences of being a child bride, and the violation of children's rights, and were detailed in these categories with different subcategories. In the news that deals with the Reasons of Child Brides, it was mentioned that girls are married off for socioeconomic reasons. It was seen that the news about the consequences of emotional, physical, sexual and economic violence are mostly presented in the News Covering the Consequences of Child Brides. In the News Discussed in the Context of Violations of the Rights of the Child, the right to immunity is among the news on digital newspapers and online portals. However, the child bride problem cannot be prevented by reporting only in the specified sub-categories. In this context, the causes, consequences of child brides and all categories of child violations should be published in digital newspapers. In the context of the causes of child brides, reasons such as poverty and deprivation, religious beliefs, traditions, social pressure, lack of education, domestic violence, natural disasters and wars, gender inequality should be included. In the context of the consequences of child brides, the consequences of divorce, depression, pregnancy, inability to complete physical and mental maturity, lack of right to education, economic dependence, substance use, unhealthy generation, behavioral disorder, dropping out of school, school failure, unemployment and poverty should also be addressed. In the News Covered in the Context of Violations of the Rights of the Child, the rights to life, health, protection, development, freedom of expression, participation, equality, housing, education and playing games should also be included in the news. Even when these news are given, it is important to present them in relation to different categories in terms of awareness of the issue. In addition, government officials and non-governmental organizations also have important responsibilities in preventing the child bride problem.
