INVESTIGATION OF KNITTED FABRIC PROPERTIES PRODUCED FROM DIFFERENT STRUCTURES OF SLUB YARN

Project no. 768 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Slub-yarn is a kind of fancy yarn, of which slub appearance is gained via the variation of the yarn linear density during the spinning process, and because of its special appearance, has been widely used in a variety of garments. Slub yarn structure is beneficial economically for yarn manufacturers finding it difficult to compete in standard products and also for the customer who find a decorative effect and a better texture imparted to the product. The decisive feature of slub yarns is the deliberate formation of irregularities in varying dimensions, repeatedly spaced along the length of the yarn in the structure. The variation of thickness, length and pause gives a wide range of effects, ensuring the use of slub yarns in many applications like denim, shirting, knitwear, casualwear, ladies dress material and also in curtains and upholstery. The size of the slubs (length, diameter, shape), repetition interval, fiber color and fiber type may vary. A simple slub yarn structure is composed of two parts, the base part and the slub part. Slub yarns are divided into structurally as basic slub, multi number, multi twist and multi-component. In this study, the effect of slub effect, yarn twist, material type and yarn count in slub yarns were investigated. Normal and slub yarns are used in Ne 10, Ne 20 and Ne 30 yarn counts of cotton, viscose and polyester fibers. As slub parameters; different slub thicknesses, different slub lengths, different slub frequencies, multi number and multi twisted slub yarns, simple slub yarn with single and 2 populations were chosen. In order to examine the effect of slub effects on fabric properties, knitted fabrics in single jersey structure were knitted from these yarns. Fabric weight, air permeability and bursting strength were measured. It was found that slub parameters have an effect on fabric properties.
