Comparison of Single-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Conventional Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Project no. 113 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Background In recent years, single incision laparoscopic surgery technique has been applied in minimally invasive surgical applications. The single incision technique promises less postoperative pain, fewer complications, and better cosmetic results. However, some studies have shown that this method has serious disadvantages besides its benefits. In this study, the advantages, and disadvantages of single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy over standard laparoscopic cholecystectomy will be investigated by comparing cases underwent single-incision or multi-port incision cholecystectomy. Method A total of 100 patients, including 50 patients with similar characteristics from each group, were included in the study. Age, gender, surgery, duration of surgery, blood loss, rate of conversion to laparotomy, pain score, complication rate, and hospital stay were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of postoperative 6th and 12th hour pain score, additional analgesia requirement, blood loss, and postoperative hospital stay. The operation time was found to be longer in the single incision technique and this group was found to be more cosmetically satisfactory. Laparotomy was necessary in only one case in the multi-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy group. All three complications were observed in the multi-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy group. Two of them were bleeding, and the other one was superficial surgical site enfection. Conclusion Single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a procedure that can be applied safely in selected patients, although it has a longer operation time and technical difficulties for the surgeon. With the technological development, it may take its place as a standard intervention in cholecystectomy in the near future.
