Investigation of stress expression related to seasonal epiphyte variety and intensity in Cymodocea nodosa Ucria Asherson 1870 species by Quantitative Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction RTqPCR
Project no. 22244 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary

Because of climate change, marine ecosystems are greatly affected by changing environmental conditions (decrease in pH, increase in temperature, microbial diseases, increase in invasive species). This situation increases the importance of the protection and management of seagrass meadows, which are of fundamental and vital importance for all marine ecosystems. Nowadays, the acidification of the seas and oceans and the changes observed in seasonal parameters cause the biodiversity of marine ecosystems to change. In our project, the seasonal variation of epiphyte density was examined by drying and weighing the epiphytes, and the possible stress caused by this epiphyte density and seasonal variation in C. nodosa was examined by RT-qPCR method.

The data obtained at the end of the project indicate that the epiphyte density is highest in summer and there is no epiphyte load in C. nodosa leaves in winter. Studies on gene expression, on the other hand, showed a general decrease in gene expression in summer, and an increase in the expression of genes related to Photosystem 1 and Photosystem 2 in winter.
