Project no. 1282 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

This research was carried out between May 2016 and January 2018 on the study fields at Ege University’s Bayındır Vocational Training School. The research has consisted of two independent stages. In the first stage, the characteristics of five different turf colorants were examined on bermuda grass during the dormancy period. In the second stage, the dormant bermuda grass was overseeded with eleven different varieties of cool season turf grasses and accordingly the outcomes were evaluated for their turf quality. Therefore, overall in this research, colour, texture and turf quality were scrutinized together with, the rate of weed invasion, cover, tillering, recovery and thinning. As results, the research plots, where the turf colorants were applied, showed better quality than the control plots; SP Green, Ecolor Koyu ve Ecolor Acik branded turf colorants were found the most successful. Additionally, as for the overseeding stage, the varieties of Poa pratensis were found inadequate overall in terms of the characteristics examined, compare to the rest of the varieties used in the research. Also, for the varieties that competed with the Bermuda grass during the summer months, the most successful plant was identified as Agrostis stolonifera. Key words: Lolium perenne, Festuca arundinacea, Poa pratensis, Agrostis stolonifera, overseeding, turf colorant, turf quality
