DETERMINATION OF PELAGIC FISH SHOALS IN IZMIR BAY BY USING ACOUSTIC METHOD

Project no. 1054 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Today, with the development of hydro-acoustic technology, echo-sounders are used in pelagic fishing. The detection of pelagic fish shoals is very important for the success of fishing. Additionally, fisheries, echo-sounders have been used for scientific purposes in the assessment of fish stocks. In Turkey, studies were carried out with this method in determining anchovy stocks especially in the Black Sea and determining the breeding areas. The aim of this study is to identify pelagic fish shoals in Izmir Bay using the acoustic method and to determine their locations. The distribution and density of fish shoals depending on the stations and depth are also included in the scope of the study. The study was carried out in 3 different stations, namely Gemiyolu, Mordoğan and Gülbahçe, in Izmir Bay between 2018 and 2019. BioSonics DT-X Scientific Echo-sounder (120 kHz split-beam transducer) was used in the study. Transect method was preferred as the acoustic survey method. In the study, in which 328 pelagic fish shocks were identified, the fish shocks were located at an average depth of 26.6 m. In the study carried out at 3 different stations, the average density was calculated as 3.3142 FPUA and the average TS -46.09 dB. Densities and depths of fish shoals vary according to stations (p <0.05).
