Investigation of the Effects of Some Pre- and Post-Harvest Applications on the Storability of Pomegranate Fruits

Project no. 20988 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2019

Summary

The study will be carried out to reveal the effects of pre-harvest calcium (Ca), gibberellic acid (GA3), and salicylic acid (SA) applications on post-harvest strength in 'Hicaznar' pomegranate variety. It was applied foliar Ca; 5 times (300 mL/100 L, 11% CaO) at regular intervals from full flowering until the beginning of September, GA3; 50 ppm during full bloom and one month thereafter; at a dose of SA 1 mM at the color change and one week before harvest. Trees selected as control were sprayed with water containing only spreading adhesive. Ca, GA3, and SA applications were applied in single, double, and triple combinations. The pomegranate fruits harvested during the commercial harvest stage were placed in modified atmosphere packages and sealed after being pre-cooled with air. Pomegranate fruits were stored at 6°C and 90% relative humidity for 5 months. Some physical, chemical, biochemical, and physiological disorders of pomegranate fruits were determined after the samples taken before and at 2, 3, 4, and 5 months of storage were kept at a shelf life of 3 days. The results showed that single and combined applications of Ca, GA3, and SA during the growing period of pomegranate storage limited the change in pomegranate seed color in the last storage period and delayed the inner membrane's browning. For this reason, it has been determined that these practices will contribute positively to preserving quality in the long-term storage of pomegranate fruits.
