Design of a PLC-Based Vibratory Stress Relief System
Project no. 32402 · Status: Kapanmış · 2024
Summary

Vibratory stress relief is a technique that uses vibration energy to reduce the internal stresses of an object or a structural system. This method reduces internal stresses and improves structural durability by subjecting a system to vibration near its resonance frequency. Vibratory stress relief is an alternative stress relief method commonly utilized in engineering applications. However, the lack of sufficient experimental studies regarding the efficiency of the method has hindered its standardization and restricted its use in our country.

This project primarily aims to design a functional vibratory stress relief system and develop its software in accordance with the controllable outputs targeted within the project's scope. At this stage, the frequency of a vibration motor fixed to the structure will be adjusted via a PLC-controlled motor drive, and the resonance frequency of the system will be detected using an accelerometer mounted on the structure. Based on the detected resonance frequency, the amount of vibration to be applied to the system will be determined, and the resonance frequency of the system will be re-measured at the end of the applied vibration. Within the scope of the study, the effects of the applied vibration and the vibration amplitude, which will be modified using eccentric weights, on the final measured resonance frequency will be investigated. Consequently, experimental data for structural fabrications will be obtained using the vibratory stress relief device developed in the project. Through these experimental findings, the effects of parameters such as vibration duration and vibration amplitude in the vibratory stress relief system will become objectively measurable.
