Investigation of the Catalytic Activities of Pridine-Containing Ligands in the Conversion Reaction of Carbon Dioxide to Organic Products
Project no. 32486 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024
Summary

One of the most pressing issues today is the growing interest in how CO2, the primary contributor to climate change and the greenhouse effect, can be utilized efficiently. To this end, several methodologies have been developed for the chemical fixation of CO2. Among these, the reaction of CO2 with epoxides is one of the most successful and significant approaches. The cyclic carbonates synthesized by this method are used as aprotic solvents, electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries, and pharmaceutical intermediates. Although many metal-containing catalysts yield good results, research has begun on metal-free catalysts with a view to reducing the possibility of waste generated by metals. In line with this, our study aims to make CO2 conversions more environmentally friendly, more efficient, and metal-free by using pyridine ligands. In this project, pyridine ligands containing a hydroxyl group (I and II) (Figure 1) will be prepared and tested as catalysts in the conversion of carbon dioxide to cyclic carbonates.
