Summary

Abdülhamid II, who was in power at a time when there were great developments in the field of vaccination, closely followed all developments in the field of vaccination. During the reign of Abdülhamid II, all innovations and developments regarding vaccination and vaccination abroad were followed with all sincerity. Since the financial burden of bringing the vaccines and serums needed in the Ottoman world from abroad and the long transportation time increased the spread of diseases, facilities were established to produce them in the Ottoman Empire. In this context, this study focuses on how the vaccine and environmental health policies developed to protect public health during the reign of Abdülhamid II fought against epidemics. Thus, the follow-up of vaccine technology, vaccine production, distribution, training of vaccine officers, vaccination centres, determination on vaccination, and public reaction were discussed during the reign of Abdülhamid II. Thus, by revealing the vaccination activities in the Ottoman state during the reign of Abdülhamid II in all details, historical memory has been tried to be revived in the fight against the epidemic in today's Turkey. With this project, it is aimed to refresh the memory of the epidemic by determining the immunisation services targeted by Abdülhamid II, who was open to the scientific innovations of the period, with the national vaccination studies in his own period and its place in basic health policies.
