Summary

Dry eye disease is a common disorder characterized by the instability of the tear film and ocular surface inflammation. In this project, the efficacy of different eye drop formulations for dry eye disease was evaluated using a scopolamine-induced rat model.

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) containing cyclosporine A and hyaluronic acid were prepared, and their effects on tear film break-up time and ocular retention time were examined. Specifically, the SLN formulation containing 0.15% HA and 0.05% SpA was found to significantly improve tear film stability, reduce corneal damage, and alleviate dry eye symptoms. These results indicate that innovative nanoparticle-based ophthalmic formulations could be an effective and promising approach for the treatment of dry eye disease. Broader clinical studies are recommended to validate these findings and adapt them to human applications.
