Project no. 22719 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary
Curcuma longa L., Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Alpinia officinarum Hance and Elettaria cardamomum (L.) Maton drugs, which belong to the Zingiberaceae family, are plants that spread in South Asian regions and are used in the form of tea or spice among the people. Although it is generally used in the treatment of colds and respiratory diseases, it has also been preferred for many purposes in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine. In this study, the total phenolic and flavonoid substance amounts, antioxidant activity determination and vitamin C values of some drugs belonging to the Zingiberaceae family were determined and compared among themselves. The drugs were obtained from a herbalist in the Uşak/Merkez region and their hydrated and methanolic extracts were prepared then the total phenolic and flavonoid substance amounts were determined by spectrophotometric methods, their antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH method and vitamin C was determined by HPLC method. As a result of the studies, it was seen that galangal methanol extract had the highest phenolic content and accordingly showed the highest antioxidant activity. The richest drug in terms of flavonoid substance was turmeric.
