Investigation of Settlement Behavior of Compacted Unsaturated Sand-Silt Mixtures

Project no. 21189 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

Collapsible soils exhibit extremely high degree of settlements under constant load when exposed to increase in water content. Collapsible soils can be encountered at specific locations all around the world. In Turkey, this type of soil can be seen in natural state in Antalya, Isparta, Adana, Konya. Just like natural collapsible soils, compacted fills may exhibit collapse behavior as well. This behaviour needs to be investigated in the context of unsaturated soil mechanics principles. In this project, a preliminary experimental study has been conducted in bachelor level in order to investigate the collapse characteristics of silt and silt-sand mixtures. In addition, effect of initial state parameters like initial water content, saturation, dry unit weight and collapse load.
