TRANING OF PERSONAL SURVIVAL AT SEA
Project no. 1290 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
The dynamic environment in which the professions of the seafarers are practiced includes many different dangers. In the event of the emergence of these hazards, the seafarers must know how to move and what equipment they should use. It is very important to have some theoretical and practical training to be able to give this knowledge that marines are expected to have. The training of personal survival techniques at sea includes theoretical and practical training on donning the life jacket, pass to abandon muster station, the life buoy practices, donning the immersion suit, to jump into the sea in safe, inflating the life raft, embarking to life raft, taking measures against hypothermia, survival techniques in life raft. These trainings are based on standards set by IMO (International Maritime Organization). At this point, the theoretical and practical training expected from the educational institutions is to be permanent on the seafarers, and to provide the necessary equipment in a cool manner in the face of danger and to exhibit the most correct manner of action. The practices of using lifesaving appliances and firefighting trainings can be executed on board. However, the practice of training to personal survival techniques at sea is not possible on board. For this reason, practical trainings in educational institutions should be accepted as vital. In this study, the dangers of personal survival techniques at sea, the scopes, requirements, and the importance of these trainings are mentioned.
