Investigation of the Relationship Between Ankle Muscle Strength and Lower Extremity Performance Tests in Individuals with Flexible Pes Planus
Project no. 20937 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2019
Summary
OBJECTIVE: The reduction in muscular activation supporting the foot-ankle is important in the formation of pes planus (flat feet). The aim of the study is to determine the effect of ankle muscle strength values on lower extremity performance tests in individuals with flexible pes planus. MATERIAL-METHOD: A total of 78 young individuals with pes planus were included in this cross-sectional study. The muscle strength measurement of the knee flexion-extansion and ankle dorsi-plantar flexion and inversion-eversion movements was evaluated with the Manual Muscle Tester device. Timed Up & Go Test (TUG), 5 Repeated Sit to Stand Test (5 STS) and 10 Meter Walk Test (10MWT) were used to evaluate lower extremity performance tests. The relationship between ankle muscle strength and performance test scores was calculated with the Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS: As a result of the analysis, only a significant difference was found between the groups for the five-repeat sit and stand test (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between groups for other parameters (p>0.05). In the correlation analysis, there was only a relationship between TUG with left foot dorsiflexor muscles and between 10MWT with right foot invertor muscles (r1 =-0.288, r2 =-0.288, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: There is no effect of ankle muscle strength values on performance tests in young individuals with flexible pes planus. In order to present the results more effectively, studies using more objective analysis with higher case numbers are needed.
