Benthic Invertebrate Fauna of the Sakarya River Basin

Project no. 1165 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015

Summary

In the present project, it is aimed to determine the benthic macro invertebrate fauna inhabiting the Sakarya Basin, which is one of 26 river basins of Turkey, and to examine ecological requirements of the determined taxa. The Sakarya Basin, which covers 7.46% of Turkey, has 56,160 km2 area. Sakarya River is the main river of the area and arises from the Middle Anatolian Region near Polatlı; then goes to North with meeting to Porsuk River and Ankara River. It passes Afyon, Konya, Kütahya, Bursa, Bilecik, Eskişehir, Ankara and Bolu provinces and flows out to the Black Sea near Sakarya province. This river is one of the most important river basins of Turkey both in terms of its size and its ecological characteristics. The faunistic studies on the aquatic invertebrates of the basin were examined; the number of these studies is less. The representatives of aquatic macroinvertebrates in the Sakarya Basin and their ecological requirements were examined.
