IN MASONRY ARCH SYSTEMS INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF TIE-RODS ON STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR BY EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL APPROACHES

Project no. 767 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

In this study, in order to examine the structural behavior of the existing historical masonry structures under external loads, the masonry arch systems that are frequently encountered in these types of structures have been examined and the experimental and computer models have been created and analyzed. In order to examine the effects of masonry arch systems and the tie-rods used in these systems on structural behavior, studies have been carried out via experimental and numerical approaches. For this purpose, the load-displacement behavior of the structure was obtained by applied incremental lateral loading on consecutive arched vault masonry system that was manufactured with full clay bricks and horasan mortar in the laboratory. Firstly, the loading was applied to the masonry system without tie-rods and then to the masonry system with tie-rods. In a computer program, the same structure was created using macro modeling technique by 3D finite elements (solid). By applying a lateral load equal to that of the laboratory experiment, the maximum stress values occured in the masonry system, horizontal displacements and the effects of the tie-rods on the masonry structure were investigated. In addition, for the purpose of examine the earthquake performance of masonry model, by taking into account two different earthquake codes (DBYBHY 2007 and TBDY 2018) spectral analysis of the three-dimensional numerical model were carried out. As a result of these studies, the results obtained by experimental and numerical methods were evaluated comparatively.
