INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF NANO CALCIUM CARBONATE IN POWDER COATING

Project no. 32968 · Status: Kapanmış · 2025

Summary

Filler materials used in powder coating systems are essential components that directly affect the optical, mechanical, and economic properties of the coating. In this study, the effects of nano-sized calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) on powder coating performance were investigated. The primary objective of the project is to evaluate how varying amounts of CaCO₃ influence key coating characteristics such as surface gloss, opacity, impact resistance, and scratch hardness. Additionally, the influence of nano CaCO₃ on the curing process was examined through gel time and mechanical tests. Multiple formulations compatible with different resin systems were prepared and experimentally tested in the laboratories of DYO Powder Coatings. The findings indicate that CaCO₃ not only offers a cost advantage but also optimizes coating performance when used in appropriate proportions. This project aims to introduce innovative solutions for sustainable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective powder coating production.
