Project no. 1262 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate social capital transportation and its effect on social exclusion regarding social network intensity on university students. With the growing number of university students in Turkey in recent years, debates focused on the unemployed university graduates make this study important. Material and Method: In this study, the determined sample of the students of Ege University, was composed of 240 vocational high school students. In the study, a questionnaire form consisting of socio-demographic characteristics and educational and training characteristics of students was formed and “Social Exclusion Scale” was used. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS (v22) statistical program. Frequency distribution and percentages were used for data analysis and chi-square test was used to determine the difference between variables. Results: As poverty, gender and migration due to education have a negative impact on intermediary social capital in general, the high level of solidarity social capital and participation in student clubs have a positive effect. However, there is a significant correlation between social capitalization and social exclusion, and it is observed that social exclusion is lower in students who have access to intermediary social capital during university education. Conclusion: There is a negative interaction between social capital accumulation and social exclusion. In general, bad social capital brings along social exclusion. The advantages of university education, especially vocational education, which are mentioned in the transportation of social capital, can be made important factors in overcoming social exclusion when used correctly.
