Ultrasonic Extraction and Characterization of Bioactive Compounds from Pomegranate Peels

Project no. 24030 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022

Summary

The main objective of this study is to obtain bioactive components of pomegranate peels (Punica granatum L.) by an innovative extraction method, to optimize different extraction conditions and to evaluate the effects of these conditions on phenolic substance and antioxidant capacity. The study reveals that the components found in pomegranate peels have beneficial properties for health and the potential of these components to be used in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. In this study, pomegranate peels were homogenized in a magnetic stirrer and processed with ultrasonic extraction method at different times and ultrasonic power levels. The phenolic substance and antioxidant capacities of the obtained extracts were measured and the optimum extraction conditions were determined. It is stated in the literature that the extraction of pomegranate peels is important for obtaining beneficial components and that these components can be used in different sectors. This study aimed to contribute to the evaluation of pomegranate peels with a zero-waste approach and to better understand the effects of extraction conditions.
