Postpartum bonding levels of pregnant women who were conceived naturally and with IVF and affecting factors

Project no. 920 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

Aim:The most important part of bonding between mother and baby starts before birth and continues to develop after birth. From this point of view, the aim of the study was to determine the postpartum bonding level and the factors affecting women who were pregnant by natural and in vitro fertilization (IVF) Method: The data of the research were collected by telephone interviews with pregnant women who were contacted at 34-36 weeks of gestation in a Training and Research Hospital at postpartum 1st and 4th months. In the data collection process, Maternal Attachment Scale-MAI, which was validated by Kavlak and Şirin in 2009, was used. 34 mothers were included in the control group and 36 mothers in the study group. Results: The median age of the mothers participated in the study was 29.00 and the age of the mothers in the IVF group was higher than the control group (p<0.05). The groups were found to be significantly similar in terms of education, working status, occupational characteristics, social security, family income and expenditure perceptions, family type (p>0.05). However, there was a significant difference between the groups in terms of spouse age, marriage period, education/information status during pregnancy and postnatal care, mode of delivery, place of longest living and length of hospital stay and birth week (p<0.05). The MAI scores within and between the groups were found to be significantly similar in both the 1st and 4th months (p>0.05). Conclusion: In the study, it was found that there was no difference between the maternal bonding level of mothers who were pregnant with IVF and mothers who were pregnant naturally. It is important that midwives who are able to contribute to the maternal bonding process with their professional practices continue to apply midwifery care that supports attachment in all conditions and awareness approaches to change social perception.
