Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Some Local Tomato Genotypes

Project no. 22602 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021

Summary

Due to various environmental pressures such as climate change, urbanization, soil pollution, and erosion, the sustainability of crop production and global food security are affected adversely, and the results of this situation make it more and more important to use existing resources effectively. Ensuring the sustainability of yield and quality in vegetable species under drought stress due to increasing climate change can only be solved by selecting or developing genotypes that are stress tolerant and/or resistant. Tomato is the most widely cultivated species in open field and greenhouse conditions in our country. In this context, considering that our country has the potential to show a high degree of diversity, it was aimed to determine the genotypes with the desired characteristics and to reveal the morphological and molecular characteristics of these genotypes. The results obtained will also form the basis for future studies to be carried out within the framework of purposes such as breeding resistant varieties and conservation of genetic diversity. In the study, morphological and agronomic characterization of local tomato genotypes obtained from different geographies of Turkey was carried out according to international criteria (IPGRI), considering that they may be resistant to stress conditions originating from climate change, and genetic kinship relationships were determined using SSR markers.
