OPTIMIZATION OF THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS ON PLM PLATFORM ON LAPTOP CASE WITH REVERSE ENGINEERING APPLICATION

Project no. 1095 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

For the last 50 years, the product development and production processes are elaborated in a comprehensive manner which resulted in the product life cycle expenses are taken into account due to globally economic competition. Therefore, the processes which become more complex are evaluated with controlled industrial software and integrated automation platforms to manage and increase the efficient of the interested product and also its lifecycle. Generally, the processes that start from the point proof of concept to mass production can be optimized in terms of time, resources usage, and product properties. The main purpose of this research is to propose a new concept which will be a part of PLM integration loops and explore its effectiveness on a simple laptop chassis. The reason of choosing this product here as a starting PLM implementation is that it includes many multidisciplinary areas in stages from the point of design to production. In other words, this approach includes many disciplinary areas such as design techniques, mathematical material modeling, numerical methods, 3D imaging and manufacturing etc. Initially, a graphical user interface (GUI) has been developed for the constitutive material modeling. This GUI allows user to determine the sensitivity of the governed material model by comparing to experimental measurements which can be used as an optimization tool in terms material for a product subjected to various physical loads. Then, a simple linear material model developed in GUI has been validated by the experimental tensile test measurements. Finally, the CAD model of the physical laptop chassis has been extracted by 3D image processing scans and manufactured with a 3D printer as a reverse tool. The results show that this technique may be used as an assistive tool in PLM cycles such as material-geometric optimization and virtual realistic simulation of the product. This projected is supported by Ege University BAP Coordination Office.
