Özet
Observational cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the indoor VOC particular exposure, prevalence of KHYH and other risk factors during June-September 2018 in central districts (Bornova and Bayraklı) where the traffic pollution is very high. Monitoring for ambient air sampling were carried out for measured different diameter of particles as ethan, penthane, benzene, methylene chloride, styrene, tetrachlorethylene, toluene, mp-xylene, o-xylene and p-dichlorobenzene and similar alcohol, alkan, aldehyde, aromatic hydron carbon VOCs such as VOCs profile from the apartments were taken from İzmir Population and Citizenship Directorate (ADNK). Environmental measurements were made in residences in apartment buildings on Ankara Street and in the residences on the parallel streets 220,221,222 and 263 with more than 50 meters away from exposure. A structured, pre-tested questionnaire form, which has been developed by the research team and including sociodemographic characteristics, environmental exposure and health information was used for data collection. A total of 49.2% of the participants (118) live in Ankara main road and 50.8% (122) live in the back street parallel to the Ankara street. The distribution of individuals according to sex (p=0.120) and age groups was similar (p=0.243). Individuals were similar in disease history as COPD, astma, chronic bronciholit, diabet, hearth diseases (p>0,05). 81.3% (61) of people who are living in Ankara street and 18.7% (14) of people who are living in parallel streets have had wheezing or whistling in their chest at any time in the last 12 months. The symptoms of the people in Ankara Street were significantly higher than the symptoms of the the parallel street (p <0.001). 69.2% (18) of the people who are living in Ankara street’s buildings and 30.8% (8) of people who are living in back parallel street had woken by an attack of shortness of breath at any time in the last 12 months. This semptom statisticallly highest in Ankara Street buildings (p=0,030). Other symptoms were found to be similar for the measurement areas. Weather conditions for the period of June-September 2018 were provided by the Turkish State Meteorological Service. Outdoor particulate and gase pollutans information were obtained for SO2 and PM10 from İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. SO2 and PM10 levels are higher in Ankara Street. The mean level of Rh, SO2, NO2, Pm2.5, Pm10 in Ankara Street were statistically higher than the paralel street. In this research, a general definition is made about the internal and external exposure in Bornova and Bayraklı region. Similar means were obtained in Ankara main Street and parallel streets when we compare the indoor and outdoor measurements. This study will be a guide for future environmental pollutant exposure researchs. There is a need for case-control studies related to chronic airway diseases, including larger samples, for generalizability of the results.
