Parametric Study on SonoFenton Oxidation of Bisphenol-A
Project no. 1322 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this study, sonoFenton oxidation of Bisphenol-A (BPA) which is an endocrine disrupting phenolic compound used in the polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resin industry, was investigated in the presence of an iron containing perovskite catalyst, LaFeO3. The catalyst was prepared by sol-gel method and calcined at 500 °C. Low frequency ultrasonic probe system at 20 kHz and 850 kHz high frequency ultrasonic reactor were used as sonication sources. The effects of temperature, initial pH value of BPA, BPA initial concentration, amount of H2O2, ultrasonic power and catalyst loading were investigated on sonoFenton oxidation of BPA. Degradation higher than 90% was achieved in sonoFenton oxidation of BPA after a reaction time of 6h under the various studied conditions. When the temperature increased from 288K to 308K, BPA removal increased, but with further increased the temperature to 318K, the removal decreased. The same result was observed in TOC results. The acidic pH was found to be more effective in the sonoFenton oxidation of BPA. BPA removal was decreased as the BPA initial concentration increased, whereas H2O2 had no significant effect on BPA removal. Optimum catalyst loading of 0.5 g / dm3 was defined in sonoFenton oxidation of BPA. The sonoFenton oxidation of BPA has also been studied in the ultrasonic reactor with a frequency of 850 kHz and the effect of power on oxidation has been investigated. At the ultrasonic powers of 4W, 8W and 32W, 11.33%, 29.0% and 96% BPA removal were obtained at the end of 6 hours, respectively. The SonoFenton oxidation of BPA on LaFeO3 perovskite catalyst was described by the first order kinetics with an activation energy of 14.9 kJ/mol.
