Project no. 30787 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023
Summary

In practically every region of the world since 2019, the Covid-19 Pandemic has affected individual and social life in various ways, and it is one of the topics of greatest interest and discussions in the mass media. The discourses generated and used by the mass media on the topic “Covid-19 Pandemic” have a significant impact on how people perceive the particular biopolitics that have been formed against to health concepts. Analysis of these discourses has the potential to provide valuable research material for linguistic studies since the discourses created and used in visual and audio media reflecting the social agenda based on real life or real-life events and are not products of fiction. Starting from this point, this thesis will explore how the Turkish and German media language linguistically shaped perceptions about health concepts during the Covid-19 Pandemic period between 2020-2022 and as well as their contribution to this biopolitical mindset. The discourse analysis approach developed by French philosopher Michel Foucault will be used on these media texts, and the results will be interpreted within the context of Discourse Theory. Previous studies on Sociology, Communication Sciences, Psychology, and other topics relating to the Covid-19 Pandemic period have been conducted in the scientific study of languages. Although the discipline is well-researched, there aren't nearly enough studies on contrastive linguistic discourse analysis, particularly in German Language and Literature studies. Starting from this point, the linguistic shaping of the perception of health concepts in the media language during the Covid-19 Pandemic period of 2020-2022 will be examined with the discourse analysis method and the Speech Act Theory, and at the same time, Turkish and German media languages will be analyzed comparatively with each other.
