Project no. 868 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Proper understanding of today’s landscapes is only possible through the knowledge of their historical dimension, in other words, changes that have occurred in time-slices or time-depth. Having been developed to provide an understanding of the historic dimension of the present landscapes, Historic Landscape Characterization provides historical data for landscape protection, management, and spatial planning. The aim of this project is to reveal the traces of Bornova District’s historical landscape in the present. In this respect, historic landscape character types of the study area have been defined and spatial maps were realized; definitions of historical characteristics distributions were made in two periods from 1963 to 2016. Initially, CORONA and RapidEye satellite images, thematic maps, written documents, and photos of the area have been evaluated and historic landscape character types were defined. Historic landscape character types are of eleven types such as, open spaces with little or no vegetation, maqui areas, forests areas, water bodies, agricultural areas, artificial surfaces, urban green areas, graveyards, quarries, and roads. Object based classification and on-screen digitizing methods were applied in order to define, map and show distribution the historical landscape character types of the study area.
