"Development of the Creative Tourism Perception Scale: Examination of the Relationships between Perception of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Travel Motivation"
Project no. 32868 · Status: Kapanmış · 2025
Summary

The purpose of this project is to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure tourists’ perceptions of creative tourism and to examine the relationships between creative tourism perception, intangible cultural heritage perception, and travel motivation. Within the scope of the study, a conceptual framework was established through a literature review, and a draft scale consisting of 12 items was prepared based on expert opinions. The research was conducted with two separate participant groups from different cities in Turkey. For the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), data were collected from 407 participants, and for the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), data were obtained from a second study group. In total, 521 adult participants were reached, and after removing outliers, analyses were carried out on a dataset of 448 individuals.

The results of the EFA indicated a unidimensional structure, explaining 65.59% of the total variance. The CFA also confirmed that the one-factor model demonstrated acceptable fit indices (χ²/df=4.47, GFI=.92, CFI=.91, TLI=.90, RMSEA=.09). Reliability analyses revealed that both Cronbach’s α and McDonald’s ω coefficients were calculated as .97, while corrected item–total correlations ranged between .78 and .89.

The findings show that the Creative Tourism Perception Scale (CTPS) is a valid and reliable measurement tool. This scale can be used to assess tourists’ perceptions of creative tourism and to examine its relationship with intangible cultural heritage and travel motivation. Moreover, the results are expected to provide important scientific evidence for the development of tourism policies and for supporting the sustainability of tourism practices.

Keywords: Creative tourism, cultural heritage, tourist perception, travel motivation.
