Design of Knitted Fabrics Providing Heat and Sound Insulation
Project no. 21194 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2020
Summary

In this project, it is aimed to develop knitted structures with thermal and sound insulation properties to be used in interior wall or floor coverings. For this purpose foldable and three-dimensional sandwich knitted structures were designed with different yarn combinations. In this scope, the designed fabric structures were produced by using cotton, wool, acrylic and polyester yarns, elastane and monofilament yarns. In the first step, the weight, air permeability, water vapor permeability and thermal resistance properties of the fabrics were tested. The results were evaluated comparatively and the most ideal knitted structure and then the most ideal yarn type were determined. After that, the sound absorption coefficients and flame retardancy properties of the selected fabrics were determined. As a result, it has been determined that the wool fabrics are the most suitable structure for the purpose of the project in terms of thermal and sound insulation; however, when other expectations in the field of application such as breathability, lightweight, easy-care and cost are taken into consideration, it has been seen that polyester included fabrics will be more advantageous.
