Effect of “Red Globe” Graft Combinations with Different American Rootstocks on Affinity and Development

Project no. 337 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

There are many problems threatening the world viniculture and the most important of them is the phylloxera (Viteus vitifolii) pest feeding on roots of culture grape-vine. Many pest management methods have been used to reproduce the grape-vines destroyed by phylloxera pest. Spraying of soil, measures taken for keeping the grape-vines under water for a period did not produce positive results. In 1869, the French vine grower Laliman saw that some grape-vine rootstocks are resistant to phylloxera; he vaccinated the culture types on those grape-vines and got successful results. In our country which has wide range, grape-vines of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Red Globe table grape variety which has been preferred the most by the foreign market has been established on large areas. Red Globe grape is among the three table grape varieties the most preferred around the world. While Red Globe has been the second grape sold at the best price among the table grapes we export in our country since 2010, the income gained from Red Globe grape is over 1 million dollars with the import amount of 1.375.057 kg in 2011. It has been detected that the grape-vines of Red Globe grape variety vaccinated with 5 BB, 3309 C and 1103 P American grape-vine rootstocks in the Red Globe vineyards vaccinated on different American grape-vine rootstocks in California died with vaccine incompatibility due to viral causes. Drying has been observed in the grape-vines of vineyards formed with the saplings vaccinated with different American grape-vine rootstocks of this important grape variety preferred by foreign market and our country since the second year following the planting year. In such vineyards in which these symptoms observed as vaccine incompatibility, the grape-vines have to be uprooted and this causes economic loss due to the reestablishment requirement of vineyard. According to the results obtained from the study, it is concluded that 41B, 110R and SO4 rootstocks can be used with “Red Globe” grape, especially 5BB, 1613C, 1103P and 1616C rootstocks should not be used in graft combination. It is thought that the material, time and workmanship losses that will occur in time for seeing the compatibility symptoms will be prevented thanks to the results taken from this research.
