Investigation of phyto-microbial remediation of arsenate resistance in Gönen rice by removal of arsenite
Project no. 20721 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019
Summary
In this thesis, phyto and microbial remediation techniques, which are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach for the elimination of foodborne arsenic exposure, which is a major concern worldwide, have been evaluated. In this context, Gönen rice and arsenic resistant Halomonas strains were used various characterization studies of the strains have been made and their pathways for metabolizing at the molecular level have been determined. As a result, it was determined that all 3 Halomonas strains had arsC gene region which is one of arsenic resistance genes. As a result of all the experiments, H.campisalis strain (4-S-1-1 B), which is thought to be advantageous in terms of bioremediation potential was investigated in terms of its effects on the development of Gönen rice which is unique to our country and the presence of the this strain caused a significant reduction (6.37% with difference) in the amount of arsenic present in the soil. Meanwhile, it was also found that the presence of the strain reduces the accumulation of arsenic in the root. Besides, the fact that the presence of the strain increased the amount of arsenic deposited in the shoots was also indicative of a successful phytomicrobial remediation. For this reason, it is thought that this thesis study will shed light on the advanced remediation studies.
