Effects of Boron Application on Agricultural and Quality Characteristics of Flaxseed
Project no. 32479 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024
Summary

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different boron doses and application timings on vegetative growth characteristics and photosynthetic pigment contents of camelina (Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz). Three genotypes were used: the registered Turkish cultivar Arslanbey and two accessions obtained from the USDA Gene Bank (PI-304269 and PI-650142). The experiment was carried out as a pot trial under İzmir-Ödemiş ecological conditions, arranged in a randomized complete block design with 6 replications. Six boron application treatments (control, pre-flowering 0.4%, capsule period 0.4%, pre-flowering 0.2% + capsule 0.2%, pre-flowering 0.4% + capsule 0.4%, and high dose combination) were established.

Two-way ANOVA analyses revealed that boron application had statistically significant effects (p<0.001) on all vegetative period parameters including plant height, leaf number, fresh and dry biomass, stem dry weight, chlorophyll a and b, carotenoids, and relative water content. Genotype effect was not significant for any parameter. High boron doses markedly suppressed plant growth (T5 plant height: 17.8 cm vs. control: 43.1 cm), whereas moderate single-dose applications increased chlorophyll a and carotenoid values compared to control. The findings indicate that high boron doses may induce phytotoxicity in camelina cultivation, emphasizing the critical importance of dose optimization in boron management.
