Multilayer Woven Fabric Production From Special Fibers

Project no. 1314 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

The purpose of this work was to produce multilayer fabrics from some special fibers. In order to achive this goal polyester fibers with different cross sectional sahpe and Vectran fibers were used. Three layer woven fabrics were produced from polyester yarns using plain weave pattern with two different stitching density. Two and three layer woven fabrics were produced from Vectran yarn using plain and 2/1 twill weave pattern. CCİ EvergreenS8900 sample loom was used for the production of fabrics. Fabric weight, weft and warp densities, breaking strength, breaking elongation, abrasion resistance and air permeability of fabrics were measured. Results showed that the fabrics produced from polyester fibers with round cross sections had higher breaking strength. The fabrics produced from polyester fibers with trilobal cross sections, on the other hand, had better abrasion resistance and lower air permeability. The stitch density affected tearing strength and abrasion resistance. The higher stitch density improved these properties. As number of layers increased fabric thickness, fabric weight and air permeability increased in fabrics produced from Vectran yarns. The breaking strength of two layer fabrics was better than three layer fabrics. In all fabrics, the breaking strength in weft direction was higher than that of in warp direction. In addition, at the end of this work, a study on composites which are one of the main application areas of multilayer fabrics was carried out. Honeycomb structure was chosen for composite structure. The main expectation from this structure is to improve impact resistance of composite. Results showed that as expected compared to flat composite structure honeycomb composite structure absorbed more impact energy.
