Use of Ultrasound Elastography in the Follow-up of Thyroid Nodules and Determination of Malignancy Detection Power

Project no. 51 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Introduction: Elastography is a new diagnostic tool for the evaluation of thyroid nodules. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of elastography in the differentiation of thyroid lesions. Method: Preoperative ultrasound (US) elastography was applied to 90 thyroid nodules of 90 patients admitted to our clinic between September 2018-August 2019. US elastography results were compared with postoperative histopathology results and sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of US elastography applied to thyroid nodules were determined. Findings: Histopathological results were malignant (70%) in 63 patients and benign (30%) in 27 patients. In our study, the mean SR for benign nodules was 2.97 ± 4.35 and the mean SR for malignant nodules was 11.59 ± 7.92. the difference was statistically significant. (P < .01). ROC curve was used to evaluate the distinction between SR and malignant benign nodules. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive and negative predictive value were respectively 97.8%, 85.7%, 88.0% and 97.8%, respectively, for 3.79 cut-off points for SR. Results: In the preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules, the sensitivity of US elastography is high and the number of patients can be increased and preoperative fine needle aspiration biopsy results can be used in indetermine patients to contribute to the literature. Key Words: thyroid nodüle, elastography
