EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT SEED TREATMENTS ON GERMINATION AND EMERGENCE IN SAFFLOWER (Carthamus tinctorius L.)

Project no. 32222 · Status: Kapanmış · 2024

Summary

The aim of the study is homogeneous seed germination by applying different chemicals, phytohormones and polymers to safflower seeds that show heterogeneous germination. The thesis study was conducted with Completely Randomized Plot Design as 3 replications.

The laboratory trial was conducted at Ege University Seed Technology Application and Research Center (TOTEM). Ten applications were made to safflower seeds: KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate), GA3 (Giberellic Acid), Chitosan, Urea, Polymer coating+KNO3, Polymer coating+GA3, Polymer coating+Chitosan, Polymer coating+Urea and Polymer coating+Pure water. Safflower seeds were germinated in a climate cabinet set at 250C.

Seed counts were made and emergence was checked in accordance with the rules determined by ISTA (International Seed Testing Association). The data obtained were analyzed by variance analysis and the means were compared with the LSD test. As a result of the germination experiment, germination speed was found to be the highest mean for Polymer coating +GA3 (94%), GA3 (88%) and KNO3 (86%), In terms of germination time had the highest means for KNO3 (3). 10 days), GA3 (3.52 days), Polymer coating +KNO3 (3.60 days).

Keywords: Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), GA3, KNO3, Urea, Chitosan, Polymer.
