INVESTIGATION OF GRAIN COLOR INHERITANCE IN WHEAT CROSS POPULATIONS
Project no. 22649 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary

In this study, F1, F2 generations and the parents of crosses made between wheat varieties that differ in grain color by Ege University Field Crops Department Wheat Breeding Team were used as materials. F1 seeds of crosses were grown together with their parents in the 2020-2021 wheat growing period to obtain F2 generations. Grain color parameters (L*, a*, b*, C* and hº) and some other yield characteristics of a hundred genotypes found in the each segregating F2 generations of Byrd x Tosunbey and Kayra x Cumhuriyet 75 were measured. Plant height, peduncle length, spike length, number of spikelets and grains per spike, and grain weight per spike were measured for the parents and the individuals in F2 populations. In the study, genomic DNAs of the same genotypes in F2 populations and their parents were extracted. Grain color of the F2 genotypes with the parents were screened with wheat SSR marker (Xgwm155) and functional color markers (Tamyb10-A1, Tamyb10-B1 and Tamyb10-D1). In terms of color parameters, F1 generation values of both cross combinations gave results closer to the parent with red grain color. The mean color parameters in the F2 population also showed closer values to the parent with the red color, except for two parameters (b* and C*) in the Kayra x Cumhuriyet population. The color alleles of the parents used were determined with molecular markers. While the parents with white color (Tosunbey and Cumhuriyet 75) were homozygous recessive in terms of three color alleles, it was determined that Byrd variety with red grain color had R-B1b allele and Kayra variety had red color alleles in terms of three loci.
