Synthesis and Biological Activity Studies of Quinoxaline-Hydrazone Derivatives as Potential Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors

Project no. 23646 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022

Summary

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease that is common in the world and the incidence of which is increasing rapidly every day. In diabetes mellitus, a clinical picture characterized by hyperglycemia caused by a deficiency in insulin secretion and/or insulin resistance in tissues is observed. When the disease cannot be controlled effectively, it can seriously impair the quality of life and cause fatal complications. Due to the high incidence and fatal complications, effective treatment of diabetes has become a necessity.

In the treatment of diabetes mellitus, non-insulin oral antidiabetic drugs with different mechanisms of action are used to prevent an increase in the level of glucose in the blood of satiety (postprandial hyperglycemia). Inhibition of the enzyme α-glucosidase, which is an important target in the treatment of diabetes, is recognized as an effective strategy for controlling postprandial hyperglycemia.

Currently, only three α-glucosidase inhibitors are used in the treatment, namely acarbose, voglibose and miglitol. Although these drugs are used in treatment, they have disadvantages such as having moderate efficacy, exhibiting gastrointestinal side effects, and high production cost. That is why there is a need to develop new drugs that are more reliable and effective. Many studies are being conducted on compounds with different heterocyclic structures, and compounds Dec carry the heterocyclic structures of quinoxaline are also among them.

In the light of these data, in our project study, it was aimed to synthesize a total of 3 quinoxaline/hydrazone derivative compounds carrying potential α-glucosidase inhibitor quinoxaline nuclei, to characterize their structure by spectral analysis methods, and to determine α-glucosidase enzyme inhibitors in vitro.

Key words: Diabetes mellitus; alpha-glucosidase inhibitor; quinoxaline; hydrazone; synthesis
