Oxygen determination in simulated artificial body fluids by using working electrode modified with a group of acidbase indicators and dyes

Project no. 21316 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

Within the context of the project, design and preparation of metal microelectrodes, modified with electropolymerization, for dissolved oxygen (O2) determination in simulated artificial body bluids and their usage in O2 determinations are aimed. For this purpose, dyes especially named as Disperse Blue 1 (DB1), Disperse Red 11 (DR11), Disperse Blue 3 (DB3) and Disperse Orange 11 (DO11) are planned to be coated on platinum/iridium microelectrodes by electropolymerization. The following goal of the studies in this context is to perform O2 determination in simulated artificial body fluids with dye modified microelectrodes for the first time in literature. As the result of the studies performed within the contex of the project, dissolved O2 determination is succesfully performed only in simulated artificial body fluid (B) called “intestine medium” (0.8g NaCl, 0.097g KH2PO4, 0.571g K2HPO4 in 100mL - pH 7.4) with only DB1 dye. Studies with other dyes in other artificial simulated body fluids couldn’t be performed as the COVID-19 pandemy didn’t come to an end and thus our undergraduate student couldn’t continue her studies further more. Nevertheless success criterions were achieved as processes, stated in Success Criterions section of LKP project application form and are necessary for the project work packages to be accepted as successful, are completed. Higher cathodic O2 response is obtained with DB1 modified microelectrodes, in this way more sensitive detections for lower O2 concentrations were shown to be applicaple. With modification peak height of +2.93x10-6A at -644mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) has increased to +6,77x10-5A level and this increase corresponds to a 23 folds (2310.5%) rise. Similarly peak area with unmodified electrode being 0,0266x10-5A.V has actualized as 2,78x10-5A.V as the peak area after modification. In this case achieved peak area rise is 104,51 folds (10451.1%). R2 coefficient of the calibration graph, based on peak height in the tested concentration range (0-8mg/L), is 0,9990 while same value is determined as 0,9917 when peak area is considered, linearity is achieved. Findings of the project are in harmony with the voltammetric O2 determination papers using anthraquinones in literature. No record is met in literature related to the usage of DB1 in electrode modification in cathodic O2 determinations. Therefore evaluation of experimental data, obtained within the context of the project, as a manuscript in analytical chemistry journals indexed in SCI-Expanded is planned.
