INVESTIGATION OF USAGE OF OLIVE PRUNING WASTE AS POTENTIAL BIOSORBENT FOR BORON REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS:EQUILIBRIUM AND KINETIC TESTS

Project no. 22496 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

Boron is an essential element for plants to complete some metabolic activities. However, high levels of boron negatively affect the development of the plant. Different plants are sensitive to different boron levels. Considering the harmful effects of boron on human health, the World Health Organization (WHO) has determined the limit of boron concentration in drinking water as 0.3 mg/L. For these reasons, the removal of boron from water and wastewater is an issue that needs to be studied seriously today. In this study, its usability as a potential biosorbent in the removal of boron from the aqueous solution of olive pruning waste was investigated. In addition, the pyrolysis method for the conversion of biomass is discussed. In order to examine the kinetics of adsorption of surfactant on biochar, the experimental data were tried to be modeled using pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order equations. In isotherm experiments, the method in kinetic studies was repeated using surfactant solutions at different concentrations. The adsorption behavior was tried to be modeled using different isotherm equations.
