Synthesis and Determination of Biological Activity of Biocompatible Allyl Glucosamine Copolymers
Project no. 21474 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary
In this project, chemically initiated copolymerization of allyl glucose amine monomer (AG) was investigated in detail. The effect of different comonomers such as with methyl methacrylate (MMA), acyrolonitrile (AN) and 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), on the copolymerization yield, thermal properties and biological activity of the copolymers (Poly(AG-ko-MMA), Poly(AG-ko-AN) and Poly(AG-ko-HEMA)) were studied. The chemical structures of the copolymers were analysed by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and FTIR spectrophotometer. The copolymerization yields indicated that AG is very low conversion in all of comonomers such as with MMA, HEMA and AN. The maximum copolymerization yield AG with AN was obtained as a 10% at 70 oC for 24 hours using azobisisobutronitrile (AIBN) initiator. The thermal properties and thermal degradation kinetics of Poly(AG-ko-MMA), Poly(AG-ko-AN) and Poly(AG-ko-HEMA) were examined by thermogravimetric analysis (TG) at different heating rates. The TG curves showed that the thermal decomposition of Poly(AG-ko-MMA), Poly(AG-ko-AN) and Poly(AG-ko-HEMA) occurred in one, two and three stages and remained about 2, 8 and 40 % at 600oC, respectively. The activation energies, Ea, of the decomposition stages were calculated by means of the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) and Kissenger Methods. The activation energy calculated from Kissinger’s method were as 166 kj/mol for the Poly(AG-ko-MMA), 105 kj/mol and 242 kj/mol for the Poly(AG-ko-AN) and 129 kj/mol, 138 kj/mol and 239 kj/mol for the Poly(AG-ko-HEMA), while they were found 186 kj/mol (for Poly(AG-ko-MMA)), 110 kj/mol and 212 kj/mol (for Poly(AG-ko-AN)) and 70 kj/mol, 90 kj/mol and 160 kj/mol (for Poly(AG-ko-HEMA) by FWO. Furthermore, biological application areas of allyl glucosamine monomer and copolymers were investigated in comparison with chitosan.
