Summary

In this study, it is aimed to develop a LED based dynamic supplemental lighting system which could be used as variable rate lighting applications in greenhouses. Six illuminant units were prepared by using high power LEDs which has blue, red and deep red colors for the supplemental lighting system. The LEDs are embedded in printed board circuit (PCB) according to unique three different unit color matrix which has been predesigned for the project. The amount and horizontal distribution of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) emitted by illuminant units has been carried out by the mechanism which has designed for PAR measurement and located in the dark room. Using dark room measuring mechanism, PAR measurements were performed in a 10×10 cm square node array within a 3×3 m dimensions. The hanging height which is the distance between the PAR sensor and the illuminator units were specified as 31.6, 50 and 100 cm. Supplemental lighting system was operated at specified working power rate which are 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. Experiments were conducted for all hanging heights and working power rates and distribution curves (ISO-PAR) was created. The highest PAR values obtained at 31.6 cm hanging height considering single or multiple hanging situations. The highest coefficient uniformity criteria results were provided by the illuminant units at the 120 cm×120 cm square hanging height. The highest PAR values obtained at 31.6 cm hanging height considering single or multiple hanging placement situations. Considering working power rates at 31.6 cm, the highest PAR values obtained %70 working power rate vary between 99.5 and 106.4 µmol·m-2s-1 and also the highest PAR values obtained %100 working power rate vary between 133.2 and 138.7 µmol·m-2s-1. The power consumption of lighting system was determined for all working power rate. The lowest values obtained 70 % working power rate which vary between 50 W and 51 W. The highest values obtained 100 % working power rate which vary between 71 W and 72 W. The measurement results were evaluated regarding to seven different uniformity coefficient equations. The highest coefficient uniformity criteria results obtained 120 cm × 120 cm square hanging placement situation at the 100 cm hanging height. The Luminous PAR efficacy of illuminant units were figured out that the illuminant units at 70 % working power rate has the efficacy between 1.99 and 2.09 µmol·m-2s-1/ W and illuminant units at 100 % working power rate has the efficacy between 1.88 and 1.93 µmol·m-2s-1/W. The control unit was developed to utilize ambient PAR measurement for controlling of PAR amount of illuminant units and supply considering supplemental daily PAR amount of greenhouse plants. It was found out that the unit worked properly and controls illuminant units related to ambient PAR measurements.
