Removal of Beryllium (Be2 +) from aqueous solutions by 5-sulfosalicylic acid loaded anion exchange resin

Project no. 22331 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

In this work, 5-sulfosalicylic acid loaded ion-exchange resin was applied for Be2+ removal from aqueous solutions. The effects of resin dose and initial solution pH on the removal of Be2+ were investigated. In addition, Be2+ removal mechanism and reaction kinetics were determined by sorption isotherms and kinetic studies. Beryllium is determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The optimum resin dose for Be2+ removal found as 0.3 g, and the working pH range found as ? 4.0 Kinetic studies showed that removal of Be2+ is fast and in 30 minutes, 98% of Be2+removal achieved. Isotherm sorption data displayed a good correlation with the Langmuir model. Removal of Be2+ by ion-exchange resin was a spontaneous process (?G<0). The Be-loaded resin can be regenerated with 0.1 M HCl.
