INVESTIGATION OF PRODUCTION OF VALUABLE CHEMICALS FROM CELLULOSE AND GLUCOSE IN THE PRESENCE OF ACIDIC CATALYST

Project no. 734 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

In this study, the production parameters of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), levulinic acid, formic acid and furfural was investigated from the model compounds, which are celulose and D-glucose, in the precense of deep eutectic solvent (DES), consist of oxalic acid (C2H2O4) and choline chloride (ChCl). Two different types of reactors, conventional batch reactor (CBR) and microwave reactor (MWR), were used with a model compound to DES ratio of 1:100. Firstly, reactions were carried out at 130, 140, 150 and 160°C and 30-120 min reaction times in conventional reactor. Experiments were carried out at microwave reactor at the same temperatures for 1-10 minutes. Second step in the study was extraction of reaction products. Extractions were made in 4 stages with the addition of 4 mL ethylacetate in each stage, for CBR and 3 stages with the addition of 1 mL ethylacetate in each stage, for MWR. During the extractions magnetic stirrer was used for CBR samples and orbital stirrer was used for MWR samples. Reaction products were analyzed in HPLC.
