INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF SEA GRASS (Posidonia oceanica) AS A COMPOST MATERIAL IN CULTIVATION OF Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster mushroom) ON MUSHROOM YIELD AND QUALITY
Project no. 1304 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
A wide variety of industrial and agricultural wastes can be used as compost material in the production of Pleurotus spp. In our country, Pleurotus cultivation is mainly conducted in Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean regions. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of Posidonia oceanica (Sea grass, SG), a sea plant that is naturally transported to our beaches in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions in spring and summer periods, as compost material on yield and some quality characteristics in the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster Mushroom). The study was carried out in two periods. In the first growing period 5 compost materials namely WS80+WB20 (Control, C), 25%C+75%SG, 50%C+50%SG, 75%C+25%SG and 100%SG (w:w) were tested. According to the results of first period, the Control application provided 17 - 4 days earliness in terms of the number of pin formation days. In terms of the day until the harvest, both 25%SG and Control application provided 14 - 3 days of earliness. The highest yield was obtained from 50%SG application with 277.5 g / kg. Considering the results in the first growing period, 6 compost materials namely WS80+WB20 (Control, C), 90%C+10%SG, 80%C+20%SG, 70%C+30%SG, 60%C+40%SG, 50%C+50%SG (w:w) were tested in second growing period. Control application provided 8 - 3 and 6 - 1 days earliness in terms of the number of pin formation days and the days until harvest, respectively. Similar to first period, the highest yield was obtained from 50%C+50%SG application with 205.8 g / kg. It has been determined that the yield of the mushroom decreases with decreasing SG ratio in compost mixture, also. In the study, other quality parameters such as number of mushrooms, cap diameter, stem diameter and stem height were also examined. The utilization of Sea Grass (Posidonia oceanica), which accumulates on the coasts of Aegean, Mediterranean and Marmara Regions before summer season, in the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus as compost material will be beneficial in terms of economy and production by reducing environmental and visual pollution, and by providing higher yield and quality in Pleurotus ostreatus cultivation.
