THE MODIFICATION OF OLIVE POMACE AND INVESTIGATION OF THE USABILITY OF Ce (III) IONS FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

Project no. 204 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

In this study, the feasibility of nanocomposite formation of both raw and acid modified olive pomace samples with magnetite (Fe3O4) and the possibility of using this nanocomposite for the removal of Ce(III) ions has been investigated. Modified olive pomace samples were treated with H3PO4 and then modified olive pomace samples were prepared nanocomposite with Fe3O4 using co-precipitation method. The nanocomposite prepared with the desired success determined by comparision and evaluation together of the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles and Fe3O4/olive pomace nanocomposite characterization studies. For this aim SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, BET and VSM analysis techniques have been used. The parameters such as pH, initial cerium concentration, contact time and temperature those affect adsorption were investigated by the batch method and adsorption efficiency (%) were calculated. Adsorption data were investigated for favourableness by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models and it was found that the adsorption equilibrium data were fitted well to the D-R isotherm equation, with maximum adsorption capacity values were found to be 0.5756, 0.4307 and 0.5450 mol/g for raw, modified and Fe3O4/olive pomace nanocomposite, respectively. According to the adsorption studies carried out at different temperatures, the adsorption process is also investigated in terms of thermodynamics and the parameters ?G?, ?H? and ?S? were calculated.
