DESIGN OF LIPID BASED DRUG FORMULATIONS FOR ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Project no. 1101 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

In our project, preparation, characterization, and in vitro release studies of orally used antihypertensive agents’ novel lipid based drug delivery systems have been made. The studies that were started with three active substances (valsartan, olmesartan, losartan) were continued with Valsartan, which was selected according to the solubility study. Many cardiovascular diseases develop due to high blood pressure. Therefore, antihypertensive treatment reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications in patients with high mortality with hypertension. For example, antihypertensive drugs, such as valsartan, losartan, olmesartan, which have a high selectivity and are orally active angiotensin II type I receptor antagonist group, are used for this purpose. Drugs such as valsartan, losartan, olmesartan are rapidly absorbed after oral administration, but their oral bioavailability is usually around 23%, due to inadequate and unbalanced bioavailability. Encapsulating or solubilizing such active ingredients in the lipid adjuvant enhances the solubility and absorption of the active ingredient, and accordingly increases the bioavailability of that active agent. In our project, different lipid-based drug delivery systems of valsartan were developed and these formulations were compared. In conclusion, an ideal drug carrier systems proposed for valsartan which shows the low solubility and bioavailability.
